The first of the economic stimulus dollars targeted for education programs was released today. Secretary of Edcuation Arne Duncan, announcing this funding at a school in Maryland called the stimulus spending “an historic opportunity, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, to lay the groundwork for a generation of education reforms.” The $100 billion in stimulus dollars dedicated to education has effectively doubled the budget of the Department of Education, part of President Obama’s stated mission to make sweeping educational reform a priority for his time in office.
